Diesel-Free Site Power: The Battery Trailer Replacing Generators on Australian Job Sites

For decades, temporary power on an Australian job site has meant one thing: a diesel generator. It works, but it comes with a long list of trade-offs — noise, fumes, refuelling runs, theft-prone jerry cans, and a carbon footprint that sits awkwardly against the sustainability commitments more clients now write into their tenders.
A mobile battery trailer changes the equation. Ezyplugs, a Gold Coast-based “big battery on wheels”, packs 120 to 200 kWh of usable lithium iron phosphate (LFP) storage onto a road-legal trailer that is registered, braked and lit. You tow it in, plug into it, and run your site without a drop of on-site fuel.
The problem with diesel on site
Diesel generators bring their own pressure points on site: exhaust next to the crew, and noise that can be hard to keep within local limits, particularly near homes, after hours and at night.
Then there is the practical drag: fuel deliveries, spill risk, servicing, and a machine that hums all day next to the people working beside it. In noise-sensitive or air-quality-strained areas, that is often the difference between working and being shut down.
How a battery trailer fits the workflow
Ezyplugs is designed to slot into the same role a generator plays, without the downsides:
- Quiet enough to run in noise-controlled zones and after hours, because there is no engine.
- Emissions-free at the point of use — no exhaust next to your crew, no fumes in an enclosed lot.
- Fills from your existing solar, or from a normal power point off-peak, so daytime sun can top it up between shifts.
- Two 22 kW outputs, so it can power site sheds and tools or charge vehicles and plant on the same unit.
For sites already running solar or a hybrid setup, the battery can carry the overnight and low-load periods entirely, letting any remaining diesel run only when it is genuinely needed — or removing it from parts of the program altogether.
Where it earns its keep
Civil and construction sites in built-up areas, fit-outs where a generator simply cannot run, night works under strict noise caps, and any project where a head contractor is measured on emissions. The same unit that quietly powers a site by day can charge an EV ute or two overnight, which is where the wider fleet conversation begins.
