French manufacturer Iguana Yachts takes a tracked approach. Their continuous track system deploys in seconds and is designed to climb inclines on sand or mud that would strand a wheeled vehicle. Tracks provide excellent traction on soft surfaces but add weight and mechanical complexity compared with a wheeled or purely trailered vessel.
American manufacturer WaterCar builds vehicles designed to perform on the road as well as on water, transitioning between modes in well under a minute. WaterCar demonstrates the car-to-boat approach, where road performance and legal road registration are prioritised alongside water capability. Vehicles built this way are typically registered and licensed as road vehicles in addition to being registered as boats, which is a different regulatory path to a standard trailerable boat.
